Mehedi Hasan Miraz, Bangladesh’s 80th Test cap, picked up 5 wickets on his Test debut against England on the first day of Chittagong Test. This makes Mehedi the youngest bowler to pick up 5 wickets on debut for Bangladesh.
18-year old off spinner Mehedi opened his Test wicket account by picking up the first wicket of the day of Ben Duckett. Mehedi kept picking up important wickets of Ballance and Joe Root. This put England in trouble at 83 for 4 in the very first session of the very first day. Moeen Ali and Jonny Bairstow anchored the England innings by gaining some momentum with their 88-run partnership for the 5th wicket.
In the last session of the day, Mehedi came back and picked his 4th and 5th wicket by getting rid of both Moeen Ali and Jonny Bairstow. Moeen Ali and Jonny Bairstow both scored fifty before departing.
By the end of the day England stand at 258 for 7. Chris Woakes and Adil Rashid remained unbeaten at 36 and 5 respectively. Apart from Mehedi, Shakib Al Hasan picked 2 wickets, including the most important wicket of Alastair Cook and Ben Stokes. Mehedi Hasan finished the day at 5 for 64 and Shakib Al Hasan at 2 for 46.
