5th ODI, Visakhapatnam
INDIA 269-6 (50 overs) NEW ZEALAND 79-10 (23.1 overs)
INDIA won the match by 190 runs, won the series at 3-2
Amit Mishra, the Indian legspinner, found great spin and turn in his bowling and utilized it just right to limit New Zealand at 79 and win the final ODI against New Zealand at Vishakhapatnam.
With fifties from Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli and skipper MS Dhoni’s 41, India finished at 269 with the loss of 6 wickets. At the time it looked to be a well enough surface to bat on. A good chase was expected from the Kiwis. However, Amit Mishra came up and produced some gems in legspin and picked up New Zealand batsmen one after another.
The strike began in the first over when Umesh Yadav bowled Martin Guptill for a duck. New Zealand batsmen had no chance to stand up to Amit Mishra’s spin. Besides Kane Williamson, Ross Taylor and Tom Latham no one made it to double figures for the Kiwis. Half the side actually went back in hut for duck.
Amit Mishra picked up 5 wickets in his 6 overs with an economy rate of 3.00, restricting New Zealand to 79 in 23.1 overs. India seal the 5-match ODI series with this comprehensive win by 190 runs. Amit Mishra was awarded both man of the match and series.
