The record holder of the quickest and fastest ODI hundred is none other than AB de Villiers! It’s needless to say how explosive of a batsman he can be, if you’ve watched him go.
Just a year after Corey Anderson broke Shahid Afridi’s record, AB renewed it. AB de Villiers brought up his ton in 31 balls against Corey’s 36.
January 18, 2015; a hectic day for the West Indies in Johannesburg, as the first three batsmen in the Protean line up got a hundred each, Hashim Amla 153, Rilee Rossouw 128 and AB de Villiers 149. And the latest one, as you can guess, is the big one!
This match also witnessed another record in making, the one of three individual hundreds in an innings. It’s the first time this has ever happened in ODIs. In the end South Africa made 439 with the loss of just 2 wickets in 50 overs.
There were three hundreds in that match but AB’s crazy 44-ball 149 was incredible! He literally went crazy on the crease that day! He brought up his fifty off 16 balls in 19 minutes, breaking Sanath Jayasuria’s record off 17. And then there’s the big one, hundred off 31 balls in just 40 minutes!
AB knocked 16 sixes in his innings, equaling Rohit Sharma’s 16 for the most in an ODI innings. After all the fireworks his strike rate was 338.63, the highest for a hundred plus score! If AB hadn’t perished and played the last two balls of the SA innings, there was a really good chance of him reaching the fastest 150 as well!
