Sri Lanka tour of South Africa

1st T20I, Centurion, January 20, 2017

The first T20I at Centurion between South Africa and Sri Lanka turned out to be a short thriller, as the rain shortened it to a 10-over match. Lungi Ngidi, debutant for South Africa, turned out to be a match winner with the ball. He picked up 2 wickets in the same over to end things for Sri Lanka and snatch the match their way.

Batting first, South Africa put up 126 in 10 overs, credit to Miller-Behardien duo, which brought 51 off just 23. Miller made 40 and Behardien 31 facing 18 deliveries each. Even though no one other than Miller and Behardien stuck around for long, everyone contributed without wasting deliveries.

Chasing 127 at 12.7 runs per over, Sri Lanka handled their situation really well in the beginning. Niroshan Dickwella and Dhananjaya de Silva put up a 59-run opening stand in the first five overs. But just then, Imran Tahir picked both the openers in the sixth over. The breakthrough had done its part, things started going down for Sri Lanka after the sixth over. Wickets started falling in every over.

Sri Lanka needed 40 in the last 3 overs. The game was still on until debutant Ngidi picked up Seekkuge Prasanna and Kusal Mendis in the eighth over giving away just 4 runs. Sri Lanka could only reach to 107 in the remaining 2 overs.

South Africa won the match by 19 runs and leads the 3-match T20I series at 1-0. Lungi Ngidi was the man of the match for his match winning 2 for 12.
